burnetii LPS, its fragments and modified derivatives, will be conjugated by the Turkish side as follows. burnetii outer membrane, in the reaction complex of the host immune system will be concluded, too. Elucidation of the role of LPS, as a dominant antigen of the C. burnetii LPS and elucidation of their importance for the functional properties of LPS will be established. Further, localization and characterization of biologically active epitopes in the C. burnetii LPS and determination of its basic chemical composition will be performed. Isolation of the purified bacteria by differential centrif ugation and extraction with ether will then follow.
Scope of our project in the period of the first 6 months: Slovakian side will be cultivating Coxiella burnetii in embryonated hen eggs. Although RRF was discovered in the early 1970s, the exact mechanism by which RRF mediates ribosome recycling still remains to be fully elucidated. Ribosome recycling is the final stage of translation and involves the concerted action of the ribosome recycling factor (RRF) and elongation factor G (EF-G) to disassemble the post-termination complex for the next round of translation.

The ribosome deciphers and translates the genetic code in all organisms. The data permit to derive a accurate model for the synergistic action of EF-G and RRF during termination of protein biosynthesis and ribosome recycling. These results provide a high-resolution structural description of the specific interaction of RRF with the ribosome and the conformational changes induced by RRF. We recently determined the crystal structure of RRF bound to Deinococcus radiodurans 50S subunit at 3.3 Å resolution. Termination is the last step of protein biosynthesis and requires the combined action of the Ribosome Recycling Factor (RRF) and the Elongation Factor G (EF-G). This process -termed protein biosynthesis – requires several co-factors accelerating or catalyzing various steps. 24(2) 251-260 (2005)) The ribosome deciphers and translates the genetic code in all living organisms.
